New York is a city that has something to offer to anyone who visits it. Cool, cosmopolitan, with lots of people, New York mixes the greatness of the big city with the charm of a small one.
It is made up of 5 boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, Staten Island.
We travelled with Play, an icelandic airline with a stop in Reykjavik. The flight staff was very polite and helpful and made us feel very comfortable.They offer several flights to the US from Athens including New York, Boston, Washington and Baltimore.
Η Νέα Υόρκη είναι μια πόλη που έχει να προσφέρει κάτι σε όποιον την επισκεφτεί.Cool, κοσμοπολίτικη , με πολύ πολύ κόσμο, η Νέα Υόρκη μπλέκει το μεγαλείο της μεγάλης πόλης με τη γοητεία μιας μικρής.
Είναι φτιαγμένη από 5 δήμους: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx , Staten Island.
Εμείς ταξιδέψαμε με την Play , μια ισλανδική αεροπορική εταιρία με στάση Ρέικιαβικ, η οποία είναι low cost. Το προσωπικό της πτήσης ήταν πολύ ευγενικό και εξυπηρετικό και μας έκανε να αισθανθούμε πολύ άνετα.
Getting around :
The best way to get to know and discover New York is to walk through its neighborhoods. Of course, the metro serves and costs $2.75/ticket and only $33 for 7 days (of course, don't stay fewer days in the city because it's huge).
To get downtown from JFK airport you can take the subway or taxi which costs about $250.
As soon as you head out of the airport you will see a sign that says airtrain, at the machines you will buy the ticket to get out of the airport which costs $8.25, then you need another ticket to go to the city, the one for $2.75 .
There is also the Uber app which is very convenient and we used it for transportation at night and also when changing hotels.
If you travel from Stewart airport like we did, then there is only one bus that takes you to the city and it costs $25 and the journey is 1.5 hours.
Ο καλύτερος τρόπος να γνωρίσεις και να ανακαλύψεις τη Νέα Υόρκη είναι να περπατήσεις στις γειτονιές της. Το μετρό βέβαια εξυπηρετεί και κοστίζει 2,75$/ εισιτήριο και μόλις 33$ για 7 μέρες(εννοείται μην μείνεις λιγότερες μέρες στην πόλη γιατί είναι τεράστια).
Για να φτάσεις στο κέντρο από το αεροδρόμιο JFK μπορείς να πάρεις το μετρό ή ταξί που κοστίζει περίπου 250$.
Μόλις κατευθυνθείς έξω από το αεροδρόμιο θα δεις μια επιγραφή που λέει airtrain, στα ειδικά μηχανήματα θα αγοράσεις το εισιτήριο για να βγεις από το αεροδρόμιο που κοστίζει 8,25$, μετά χρειάζεσαι άλλο εισιτήριο για να πας στην πόλη, αυτό των 2,75$.
Υπάρχει επίσης και η εφαρμογή Uber που είναι πολύ βολική και τη χρησιμοποιήσαμε για μετακινήσεις το βράδυ, αλλά και όταν αλλάζαμε ξενοδοχεία.
Αν ταξιδέψεις από το Stewart airport όπως κάναμε εμείς , τότε υπάρχει μόνο ένα λεωφορείο που σε πάει στην πόλη και κοστίζει 25$ και η διαδρομή είναι 1,5 ώρα.
What to do
- Central Park : A park in the center of Manhattan that you need many hours to go around. Inside the park you will find people exercising, walking their dogs, and shops where you can sit for coffee or breakfast. One of the most beautiful spots in the park is the terrace and the Bethesda fountain. It takes its name from a Bible story where an angel healed the sick at the Lake of Bethesda in Jerusalem.The Bow Bridge is one of the oldest and most beautiful in the park. Also, you will see the statue of Hans Christian Andersen.
- Museum of the City Of New York : A museum of history and art in Manhattan. Admission is $18.
- Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center and One World Observatory : You can choose one of these buildings to see the view from above.
- Shopping on 5th Avenue and Soho.
- Attend a Yankees game at Yankee Stadium. Tickets start at $20. For a good stadium seat, the ticket costs $200.
- Times Square for the featured photo.
- Brooklyn Bridge : For a walk along the bridge. Then you can go to the
- Dumbo area with its cobbled streets and beautiful cafes and restaurants.
- Queens : An area where mainly Asians live and you feel like you are in another city.
- Lincoln Center: Cultural center in Manhattan where they present performances of music, dance, theater, opera and many others.
- Grand Central:the train station,it appears in series and films.
- Statue of Liberty-Battery:For an unforgettable view of the statue and Ellis Island, head to The Battery.You can also take the ferry from the Battery Park to the Statue of Liberty which takes around 15 minutes. The ferry is free and the queues are long. If you don’t have the time, then you can enjoy the view from the Battery which is really nice. You can really call the entire waterfront area the “Statue of Liberty viewpoint”.
- Rockefeller Center:The complex is noted for the large quantities of art present in almost all of its buildings, its ice-skating rink, and its annual lighting of the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree.
- The Met: One of the most important art museums in the world.

- Central Park : Ένα πάρκο στο κέντρο του Μανχάταν που χρειάζεσαι πολλές ώρες για να το γυρίσεις ολόκληρο. Μέσα στο πάρκο θα βρεις κόσμο που κάνει γυμναστική, που βγάζει βόλτα το σκύλο του, αλλά και μαγαζιά για να κάτσεις για καφέ ή πρωινό.Ένα από τα πιο όμορφα σημεία στο πάρκο είναι η βεράντα και το σιντριβάνι της Βηθεσδά. Το όνομά του το πήρε από μια ιστορία της Βίβλου όπου ένας άγγελος θεράπευε ασθενείς στη λίμνη Βηθεσδά στην Ιερουσαλήμ. Η γέφυρα Bow είναι από τις παλιότερες και ωραιότερες στο πάρκο. Επίσης, θα δεις το άγαλμα του Χανς Κρίστιαν Άντερσεν.

- Queens : Μια περιοχή που ζουν κυρίως Ασιάτες και νιώθεις ότι βρίσκεσαι σε άλλη πόλη.
- Lincoln Center : Πολιτιστικό κέντρο στο Μανχάταν όπου παρουσιάζουν παραστάσεις μουσικής, χορού, θεάτρου , όπερας και πολλών άλλων.
- Grand Central:σταθμός των τρένων,εμφανίζεται σε πολλές σειρές και ταινίες.
- Statue of Liberty-Battery: Για μια αξέχαστη θέα στο άγαλμα της Ελευθερίας και στο Ellis Island, πήγαινε προς το The Battery. Μπορείς επίσης να πάρεις το πλοίο από το Battery Park στο Άγαλμα της Ελευθερίας, το οποίο διαρκεί περίπου 15 λεπτά. Το πλοίο είναι δωρεάν και οι ουρές μεγάλες για αυτό αν έχεις χρόνο είναι μια ωραία εμπειρία. Αν δεν έχεις χρόνο, τότε μπορείς να απολαύσεις τη θέα από το Battery που είναι πολύ ωραία. Where to stay
If you are a fan of Gossip Girl, then this hotel is for you. The location is perfect, across from Lincoln Center and close to many New York attractions and shops. The staff is great and you get free bottles of water daily. The only negative is that the hotel does not have breakfast.
Αν είσαι φαν του Gossip Girl , τότε αυτό το ξενοδοχείο είναι για σένα. Η τοποθεσία είναι τέλεια, απέναντι από το Lincoln Center και κοντά σε πολλά αξιοθέατα και μαγαζιά της Νέας Υόρκης.Το προσωπικό είναι εξαιρετικό και έχεις δωρεάν μπουκαλάκια νερό καθημερινά. Το μόνο αρνητικό είναι ότι το ξενοδοχείο δεν διαθέτει πρωινό.
Homewood Suites by Hilton Midtown Manhattan
A hotel with equipped suites that include an office, kitchen, TV and breakfast. You can make coffee or tea any time you want in your room or from the lobby where a coffee and tea station operates 24h. It is in a very good location, near Times Square .
Ένα ξενοδοχείο με εξοπλισμένες σουίτες οι οποίες περιλαμβάνουν γραφείο, κουζίνα , τηλεόραση και πρωινό.Μπορείς να φτιάξεις όποια ώρα θέλεις καφέ ή τσάι στο δωμάτιό σου ή από το lobby όπου λειτουργεί coffee and tea station 24h.Βρίσκεται σε πολύ καλή τοποθεσία, κοντά στην Times Square.
Hampton Inn Empire State Building
If you want a room with a view of the Empire State Building, then this is the hotel you are looking for. In the center of New York and close to shops and attractions. Opposite you have the largest Macy's in the world and endless options for food and coffee. Every afternoon you can get free cookies from the lobby, but also water, coffee and tea from the station. Breakfast is included in the room price.

Where to eat
The best French restaurant in New York with an atmosphere that takes you to Paris. The food is excellent, we suggest you try the onion soup, the entrecote and the creme brulee. The service is very good and fast. Prices are reasonable for New York.
Το καλύτερο γαλλικό εστιατόριο της Νέας Υόρκης με μια ατμόσφαιρα που σε ταξιδεύει στο Παρίσι.Το φαγητό εξαιρετικό , σας προτείνουμε να δοκιμάσετε την onion soup , την entrecote και την creme brulee. Το service είναι πολύ καλό και γρήγορο. Οι τιμές είναι σε λογικά επίπεδα για Νέα Υόρκη.
Located in the Tribeca area, it is the perfect for a night out. It has fantastic vibes as a venue and the food is excellent. The cuisine has Spanish-French and Cajun influences that give New Orleans cooking an explosive flavor. We suggest you try the nicoise salad, the buttermilk fried oysters and the steak and frites.

A Korean cafe in New York with a great interior and fantastic staff. You must definitely try their perfect sweets like the rainbow cake, the brown croffle, but also their special coffees like the meringue affogato.
Ένα κορεάτικο καφέ στη Νέα Υόρκη με υπέροχο εσωτερικό χώρο και φανταστικό προσωπικό.Πρέπει οπωσδήποτε να δοκιμάσεις τα τέλεια γλυκά τους όπως το rainbow cake, το brown croffle , αλλά και τους ιδιαίτερους καφέδες τους όπως το meringue affogato.
We visited it during the Rose Festival and sat outside, which was very nicely decorated. The menu has many options for lunch. We started with the strawberry froze and tried the strawberry pecan salad which is a perfect choice for summer. As a main course the lobster roll is very tasty.
Το επισκεφτήκαμε κατά τη διάρκεια του Rose Festival και καθίσαμε στον εξωτερικό χώρο,ο οποίος ήταν πολύ όμορφα διακοσμημένος.Το μενού έχει πολλές επιλογές για μεσημεριανό. Ξεκινήσαμε με το strawberry froze και δοκιμάσαμε τη σαλάτα strawberry pecan που είναι τέλεια επιλογή για καλοκαίρι.Σαν κυρίως πιάτο το lobster roll είναι πολύ νόστιμο.
The place where if you want to find a table you have to make a reservation because it gets crowded. One of the best places for breakfast or brunch in NYC. Try the pancakes with blueberries for which they are famous.
Το μέρος όπου για να βρεις τραπέζι πρέπει να έχεις κάνει κράτηση αφού γίνεται χαμός. Ένα από τα καλύτερα μέρη για πρωινό ή brunch στη Νέα Υόρκη. Να δοκιμάσεις τα υπέροχα pancakes με blueberries για τα οποία φημίζονται.
A greek bakery in the Soho area. You can have breakfast or lunch, since it has a seated area. It has many choices of cooked food such as meatballs, moussaka, but also various types of pies and salads.You can also find traditional greek sweets and greek freddo.
Ένας ελληνικός φούρνος στην περιοχή Soho. Μπορείς να πάρεις πρωινό, κάποιο σνακ , αλλά και να κάτσεις για μεσημεριανό, αφού διαθέτει και τραπεζάκια. Έχει πολλές επιλογές μαγειρευτών φαγητών όπως κεφτεδάκια , μουσακάς , αλλά και διάφορα είδη από πίτες και σαλάτες.Φυσικά μόνο εδώ θα βρεις φρέντο.
A Mexican bar restaurant with a great atmosphere and delicious dishes. The tostaditas with tuna and shrimp are worth a try, but also their cocktails which are special. The staff is very kind and will direct you correctly to what you want to choose.
Ένα μεξικάνικο bar restaurant με υπέροχη ατμόσφαιρα και νόστιμα πιάτα.Τα tostaditas με τόνο και γαρίδα αξίζουν μια δοκιμή, αλλά και τα κοκτέιλ τους που είναι ιδιαίτερα.Το προσωπικό είναι πολύ ευγενικό και θα σε κατευθύνει σωστά σε αυτό που θες να επιλέξεις.
Note: Restaurants in New York have tips of at least 20% of the bill and it is a tactic that prevails almost everywhere. Even in take away shops such as bakeries, coffee shops you will be asked to give tips when paying, but you can avoid it. This does not apply on restaurants.
Σημείωση : Τα εστιατόρια στη Νέα Υόρκη έχουν tips τουλάχιστον το 20% του λογαριασμού και είναι μια τακτική που επικρατεί σχεδόν παντού.Ακόμα και σε καταστήματα για take away όπως φούρνοι, coffee shops στην πληρωμή θα σας ζητηθεί να δώσετε tips.Εκεί όμως υπάρχει η δυνατότητα να το αποφύγεις σε αντίθεση με τα εστιατόρια.
